Kids in Coffee Houses
I bring my daughter who is 13 almost 14 to coffee houses with me because she knows how to behave, can entertain herself, needs minimal supervision and isn’t disruptive. Today I find myself at my favorite coffee house and it happens to be full of parents with children under the age of 5 actually running around, screaming and yelling, and being generally disruptive and the parents do nothing. Now, this is a very large college town. I’m talking a community college, 2 trade colleges, and 5 state colleges so on any day of the week it is a good bet that college students are in coffee houses socializing and making use of the free wifi and studying. As a student myself I know that I come to a coffee house so that I am not interrupted from the distractions that I typically have at home. To settle in and be making great progress and all of a sudden have my concentration shattered by the ear piercing shrieks of the 8 kids under the age of 5 that are killing each other on the main floor of the coffee house is not cool. Yes, kids will be kids but, why bring them to a place that is primarily inhabited by people trying to study or work? I have no problem with people bringing babies though. Maybe it drives me nuts because when Kidlet was that age I wouldn’t take her places where she was likely to be disruptive. So how do you feel about bringing little kids to coffee houses?

While my cohorts are all out viewing the parades and getting drunk I am spending the day in my jammies, working on homework and trying to nurse myself back to health since I am still sick 3 weeks after getting the plague which was brought into the house from my mom’s boyfriend and generously passed around to everyone in the house. I think mine has turned into bronchitis though but, I am going to wait it out and see.
Beautiful March Day
Man today is a beautiful day! The past few days it has been between 60 & 68 degrees … In Western NY that is almost unheard of in March and this weekend it will be in the mid 70′s. However, I don’t doubt for a minute that it will snow again before the end of May. Today I have been out actually enjoying the weather … I’m sitting at Starbucks procrastinating about working on my English essay that is due tomorrow. I really only need to write up my note to the professor about the project and finalize my draft which is no big deal. I will probably hold off sending it until tomorrow night though because I really hate being the first person to turn in an assignment and for this entire project I have been the first one on every step which is crazy.
February Vacation!!
So it is now week 5 of school and it is February vacation THANK GOD! Despite having 4 online classes and spending most of my days on the internet I have been so busy keeping up with my classes especially my English & History ones that I don’t have the time or energy to do anything else online. Hell, I can barely keep up with anything in my life other than school. I am spending this week just catching up with me regular life .. cleaning, doing laundry, hanging out with friends etc. I did end up managing to do my taxes, submit my financial aid forms for the fall, and signed up for my summer classes.
I am going to attempt to blog regularly this week, participate in the blogosphere a little bit more an perhaps get some actual pre-written content scheduled so that when school starts there might be something slightly interesting here to view. I did also, get some of my tax money back and I should be getting my school money within the next few weeks so I have been spending a little bit of money on essentials like clothes since Kidlet seems to go through socks like they are going out of style.
I did make one larger purchase that is school related but, I am not really going to talk about it until after it gets here sometime later this week. I have been trying to be good and am going to try to make this money last as long as possible. I also need to compare school schedules with Jenn so we can plot my trip down there and so I can let my Mom know when she will need to take her vacation so that she can be home with Kidlet.
I think since the house is quiet I will take the chance to have a nap for once.
