No School Today!!!!

Today Kidlet was off of school for some district thing so we spent the day just hanging out. I would up at the ass crack of dawn1 while Kidlet snoozed away. I enjoyed that quiet time because that was it until now.

I was the evil mom that made Kidlet finish all her projects for school, put away dishes, put away her laundry & even clean her room. But, honestly she had it all done really quickly so we laid around catching up on season 3 of The Vampire Diaries. We did end up making some yummy cheesy bread2 with the pizza crust mix we had in the pantry, shredded cheese and we made out own garlic butter sauce.

I managed to sneak in some time to seriously clean up my WordPress database and download episodes of House & Criminal Minds that I had not seen from this season yet. Then Kidlet & I made a super lazy dinner of chicken nuggets & french fries for the whole family. After she went off to bed I started the dishwasher3, made myself a cup of Sleepytime Tea and settled in to blog.

I have a bunch of phone calls that I have to make tomorrow including ones to Kidlet’s doctor, Kidlet’s school about cheerleading and my school. I also have to make sure that Kidlet has the correct clothes to wear for her musical concert at school on Thursday. That is completely last minute and not me just procrastinating because she didn’t mention it until oh 5 pm yesterday. I swear the brain of a teenager just might drive me off the deep end one day lol.

I think I am going to go to bed now before I fall asleep with my head on the keyboard & drooling ;) .

  1. of course I do on a day I can sleep in #FAIL []
  2. Think Domino’s []
  3. Since my Mom’s boyfriend bitched that I didn’t run it but, yet I washed the dishes that were in the sink from breakfast and the cooking ones too []

Shopping Goodwill = Awesome!

So Tuesday when Kat came over we decided after lunch to hit the Goodwill store that is in the same plaza and it was an awesome idea let me tell you! That day anything with a yellow tag was 50% off and each day of the week a different color ticket gets assigned to be 50% off. So you are shopping already low bargain prices and they give you even more of a discount.

Everything at the store we went to was pretty well organized by type of clothing, then size and lastly color. I really like the by color part because if you hate a particular color you can just skip it! Kidlet has experience thrifting with me so I just let her go for the racks and hunt and she came up with a bunch of name brand stuff that she picked for herself and for her cousin as well.

Here are the “name brand” clothes that I scored for Kidlet with the Goodwill price vs. the retail price :

  • Old Navy Skinny Jeans
    Goodwill $4.99, Retail $19.50
  • Aeropostale Long Sleeved Henley Shirt
    Goodwill $6.99, Retail $29.50
  • Aeropostale V-necked Sweater
    Goodwill $6.99, Retail $44.50
  • Hollister Hoodie
    Goodwill $6.99, Retail $39.50

Total Goodwill price – $25.96
Total retail price – $133.00

Savings by shopping at Goodwill – $107.04

To do well thrifting you need to remember a few things:

  • Take your time looking through the sections in the sizes that you are looking for.
  • Don’t trust the size written on the price tag! Always look inside the garment.
  • If you like it put it in your cart even if you are unsure if you will purchase it because it might not be there if you walk away and come back later.
  • Before commiting to a purchase check all clothes for holes, rips & stains. Also, check the inner thighs on pants etc. for excessive wear.

Do you have any thrifting tips? What was your best savings / purchase at a Goodwill or thrift store?

The day matched the weather

So yesterday was actually a pretty good day around here. Despite not going back to bed after I woke up at 11:30pm I still got Kidlet up at 7:30am, called unemployment to straighten out why my payment was short. I had told them that the last day that I worked was June 19th and when I went into work on June 20th they handed us all letters stating the store was closing immediately and we were sent home. The woman that I talked to the day after I filled out my online claim told me that she was putting my last day as the 19th. The woman I talked to this morning tried to tell me that I told them my last day of work was the 20th. Why would I say that when I didn’t paid the day they sent us home? I didn’t period. So, the woman submitted a claim to have that day paid to me and not have it applied to my waiting week. Eventually I will get my missing $56 back thank god!

Afterwards, I took Kidlet to our main library downtown where she took out 5 books & entered the summer teen reading program. I didn’t get any books because I have so many on my Nook already that I need to read why bother getting more books to read right? Anyway, after spending a few hours there we went to have lunch at one of our favorite diners where we both started reading new books while waiting for our food/ Afterwards we did some window shopping because there a bunch of cute shops on that street, picked up a few essentials (You can never have enough deoderant or feminine hygiene products in this house!), and headed home on the bus. We were actually back home about an hour before my Mom’s boyfriend came home and nobody even realized that we had went anywhere lol.

I had a killer headache so I took some medicine and laid down and ended up sleeping for about 3 hours which again explains why I am awake and blogging right now lol. I am also doing laundry at the moment so that Kidlet has clothes to cover her butt this weekend since she will be heading to BD’s house.

I think that the plan for today will just be to relax at home …. maybe lay in the sun on the back patio & supervise Kidlet in the pool but, since I haven’t gone to bed yet I really don’t know lol.

But, yesterday was a great day where I was in a good mood to match the sunshine

Coping? Not So Much

I have to say right now I am struggling to cope with being home full time and not working. I just feel as though there are million hours in the day and not much to do constructively.

I am doing the standard stuff daily like watering the jungle of plants, doing the truck loads of laundry that my 13 year old daughter produces (really how many outfits do you have to wear in a day when you aren’t going anywhere?), doing the dishes, cooking 3 meals a day (which I actually kind of missed when I worked), sweeping up the monster tribble sized fur left behind from 3 cats, cleaning up barf presents left behind by the ancient 18 year old cat but, really that is it.

I get up & shower every morning just to put on a clean pair of jammies because really where the heck am I going?

The rest of the day is spent hanging out watching Netflix, surfing the internet and spending time with the oh so dramatic ball of hormones that is currently my 13 year old daughter.

I really am not sure how I stayed home with Kidlet until she was one. I am struggling with the lack of adult interaction now and thats with all the internet & social media outlets. Back then I had no internet and few friends that weren’t busy with school so I have no clue how I didn’t go insane.

I do have free or cheap things planned to do this summer with Kidlet such as going to the main library and checking out all the cool buildings and architecture and going to the beach which all only require spending money on busses to & from but, I haven’t been able to drag Kidlet’s butt out of bed early enough so far to do any of that.

Everyday just seems like a never ending weekend where there is nothing to do.

Woop Woop I’ve Got The Keys

Ok, so I really don’t have the keys however, I thought it was an awesome title lol. So last evening I went out with Kat and we saw Black Swan for her birthday1 and let me tell you that movie is freaky as hell!! I really enjoyed it but, it is a true mind fuck to say the least and so worth actually paying to see2.

Today I have just putzed around on Facebook3, watched more of  Law & Order: SVU season 1, changed the layout, installed some plug ins and now I am working on laundry and trying to decide what to make for dinner. I have to at least give Kidlet the impression that I actually did something constructive on my day off.

I am not looking forward to work tomorrow but, I have a bunch of stuff that I need to get done before the big boss comes in from another state this week. I also am planning on doing my taxes hopefully Monday or Tuesday and then on Wednesday I have to meet with a facilitated enroller for Kidlet’s insurance because they said that my paystubs that I mailed in with my application were too old.

When I mailed out my application it just turned January and I hadn’t gotten paid this month .. not my fault that she didn’t see my application until last week. Also, the enroller tried telling me that I didn’t fill out the application all the way which, it total bullshit everything was filled out, double checked and signed so I will have to complete another application and sign more paperwork. I am betting that they changed the application they use and it was never updated online because she mentioned that birth certificates aren’t required but, that was on my applications document checklist. If I go there and she is as condescending in person as she was on the phone there is going to be a HUGE problem!

Anyway, I hear the dryer buzzing so I better get that stuff out and the next load in. Mom chores are never ever done!

  1. that is actually today HAPPY B-DAY HOT MOMMAAAA!! []
  2. cause I’m one cheap ass bitch lol []
  3. I am addicted to Farmville & Frontierville []
