Flying Entertainment

So yesterday there was an article posted on Aiming Low called OMG, SkyMall where the writer talks about the SkyMall magazine that you get on an airplane and how amusing it can be when you are in the “no electronics” status during take off & landing.

When I fly I too take a ton of electronics on board to stay entertained: Netbook, Nook, Ipod, Smartphone, and even my camera. It didn’t dawn on me while getting ready for my last trip to see Jenn that I wouldn’t be able to read my Nook during take off & landing at all since I didn’t own one on my previous trip. When I was leaving Nashville 30 minutes is a long time to sit in a plane, on the runway awaiting take off with nothing to do. Had I even thought to look at the SkyMall magazine I would’ve felt less like sporking the person sitting next to me in the eye lol.

Now I know to pack a paperback word puzzle book or something along with all my electronics. You would think though that with all the advances in technology that the radar systems on airplanes would be better so that other small electronics wouldn’t interfere with it … just sayin’.

  1. I watched an episode of dateline that said that they’ve never actually had a small electronic interfere with their system (and you know everyone doesn’t turn theirs off) butt hat theoretically if we all left ours on and there were any glitches it could possibly cause problems, but there was a small chance. Still, im afraid to fly, so id rather not take any risks at all lol…id hate to be the dick who turned on their phone and crashed a plane. I mean what do you say, oops, my bad!

  2. I hear really interesting things about skymall. I really feel like I need to read this mag. Maybe when I fly to TN next year sometimes (i hope). I made a small donation for your blog her cause. It isn’t much but I know what it’s like to want to travel and it’s not easy. I want to travel too and hopefully get to do it more often. Good luck!
